Commissioners face busy agenda November 22

Lawrence County Commissioners are meeting today, November 22, 2022, at 5 p.m. for their second full Commission meeting of their 2022-26 term. The location is Courtroom A on the second floor of the Lawrence County Courthouse and the public is welcome to attend.

Three resolutions are honorariums recognizing outstanding efforts:

*The Summertown High School girls’ volleyball team has earned three state titles in four state tournament appearances, 2019-2022, including the 2022 TSSAA State Championship.

*Coffman Middle School’s football team has gone undefeated the past three seasons, resulting in a record of 27-0.

*Lawrenceburg/Lawrence County Solid Waste Director Gary Wayne Hyde was named 2022 Solid Waste Director of the Year by the Tennessee Association of Solid Waste Directors.

Other resolutions include confirmation of General Sessions Judge Mike Harris and County Commissioner Sandy Newton as new members of the Lawrence County Public Records Commission;

Appointment of Emergency Communications District Director Chad Moore to the Lawrence County Commission Emergency Services Committee;

Approval of 2023 holidays for Lawrence County Government employees;

Amendment of funding for the purchase of a tractor from the Highway Capital Projects Fund;

Approval of Columbia State’s lease, January 2023 through June 2024, at the Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center;

Exemption from the application of statewide building code standards in Lawrence County, outside its municipalities;

Additional funding for water line extensions to Cabin Lane/Barnett Drive and Bassham Road;

Designation of Solid Waste, Sheriff’s Department, and EMS equipment as surplus;

Approval of amendments to the Lawrence County Workplace Safety policies;

Removal of uncollectable solid waste accounts;

Approval of an agreement between the Sheriff’s Department and two deputies regarding Drug Detection dogs; and

Approval of matching funds for a grant received by the Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.

Items to be considered under suspension of the rules* with Commission approval include:

Approval to share the cost of Christmas lighting with the City of Lawrenceburg; and

Approval to purchase a new ambulance.

*These items will be considered “under suspension of the rules” because they were added to the Commission agenda following its Resolution Committee meeting on November 8, 2022.
