Lawrence County Director of Accounts and Budgets Resigns

Lawrence County Director of Accounts and Budgets Teresa Purcell resigned unexpectedly on Thursday, December 1, 2022, following the Budget and Emergency Services Joint Committee Meeting.

Purcell has served the county as Director of Accounts and Budgets for 21 years. County leadership was surprised at the highly unexpected event and are actively working to find Purcell’s replacement as this position is extremely important to the day-to-day operations of county government.

Lawrence County Executive David Morgan stated, “Teresa has served our government well through many executives and commissions. Her resignation was a major shock to myself and many throughout the county government. Purcell’s long-time, steadfast commitment to her position as Director of Accounts and Budgets has left the county in excellent fiscal condition. Although her unexpected resignation is very unfortunate for our county, I strongly believe that we will continue to be one of the top fiscally responsible counties in the state. As we pursue potential replacements for the office, I am very confident in the Budget Office’s ability to work through this transition of leadership. I thank and commend Teresa for her service and wish her best wishes in her future endeavors.”

Morgan is working closely with CTAS (County Technical Advisory Service) and the Comptroller’s office to guide the transition. The position will be posted, and the proper hiring process will be followed. Once a replacement is chosen, The County Executive will appoint, and the County Commission will approve the appointment.
