Lawrence County Solid Waste is partnering with Wayne County and a private property owner to clean up a massive tire dump at the county line. An estimated 10,000 tires were dumped on this farm.

Lawrence County received grant funds from the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation’s Tire Environment Fund to purchase the 320GC Caterpillar track hoe with a hydraulic thumb that is central to the project. The grant also included a truck and trailer to transport it.

The property owner made a deposit with Lawrence County to cover the cost of salaries, benefits, equipment use, fuel expenses, and tire disposal costs.
In these photos, tires are being consolidated into piles so they can be loaded onto dump trucks from Liberty Tire Recycling and taken to its Nashville facility.
