The Chamber’s new Lawrence County guide is out. It is an updated version of the first edition that came out in August 2016 and featured Davy Crockett’s statue in front of an American flag.
That cover celebrated Lawrence County’s 2017 Bicentennial and the content’s focus was local history. The new cover features a couple kayaking on Shoal Creek and the focus is outdoor adventure.
Articles on that subject explore not only Shoal Creek but David Crockett State Park; our Disc Golf Trail with courses in St. Joseph, Loretto, and Lawrenceburg; the Lawrenceburg Golf & Country Club; Laurel Hill Lake; Natchez Trace; and sports facilities including the Abigail’s Plan Miracle League Field. And that’s only the first section.
Other topics covered are our culture and history, music, quality of life and economic development. You will find a list of our War Memorials and some of the famous gospel songs written for James D. Vaughan’s songbooks, a calendar of events and rules to follow when visiting Amish Country. “Enjoy our Community” is a quick who-what-when-where reference for Lawrence County’s recreational opportunities, from swimming pools to motor sports.
This publication is for anyone visiting for a day or considering a move to our county. It is also designed for folks who have made their home here for years. I guarantee when you sit down to read it – and you will want to – you’ll learn something you didn’t know about Lawrence County.
One difference you’ll notice between the first and second edition is a larger number of familiar faces, highlighting people who live and work here and help define our community. The purpose is to honor them and their contributions, and show visitors the real heart of Lawrence County.

The publication is available free of charge at the Chamber, at Lawrenceburg, Loretto, St. Joseph and Ethridge city halls, my office, and in many local businesses, including our motels.
