Teresa Purcell, Lawrence County’s Director of Accounts & Budgets, was elected Second Vice President of the Tennessee Government Finance Officers Association (TGFOA) at its fall conference held September 30 – October 1 in Murfreesboro.
TGFOA is a professional organization made up of finance officials from across the state, representing Tennessee’s cities, counties, school districts, utilities, and special purpose jurisdictions.
The organization’s mission is to promote improvement of governmental finance practices, following standards developed by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the U.S. and Canada, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, the Comptroller of the Treasury and other authorities in the field of governmental finance administration.
TGFOA members have access to continuing education and updates about practices related to accounting and financial reporting, cash management, financial administration, debt management, and capital budgeting.
Purcell has served as Lawrence County’s Director of Accounts & Budgets since 2004, and has been a member of TGFOA since 2015. The second vice president performs the duty of the president in absence of the president and first vice-president and is responsible for overall coordination of the organization’s annual meeting.
