The Middle Tennessee District Fair (MTDF) gets underway on September 23 and continues through October 1, the first nine-day event in the Fair’s history.
The Fair is sponsored by the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club and held at Lawrenceburg’s Rotary Park. The civic club took over its management in 1950; the Fair began in the late 1800s as events where local farmers and homemakers displayed their best work.
That aspect still exists, with judging in categories that include baking, food preservation, quilting, and field and forage crops. Visitors can view winners in these and many other classes in Rotary Park’s east gym. Two gyms to the west offer displays by local businesses and student art.
Fairest of the Fair beauty contests are a longtime tradition and are now held at the Historic Crockett Theatre. Five age categories are featured in events that take place this year on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25.
Country music artist Granger Smith headlines a Friday, September 30 concert at the Rotary Park Arena. Each night features a different event in front of the covered grandstand:
9-23: Moto Cross/ATV Racing
9-24: Tough Truck Competition
9-25: MTDF Giveaway
9-26 and 9-27: Junk Car Jump & Run
9-28: Midget Wrestlers
9-29: Demolition Derby
9-30: Granger Smith
10-1: Truck & Tractor Pull
The MTDF Concert Stage offers more live music most evenings. This year’s lineup includes Southport; Natalie Brady & Mindy Miller; Big Monti; Ben Daniel; and Slammin’ Otis.
As always, Wade Shows will fill the Fair midway with carnival rides and games for the young and young at heart. Food is another major attraction, with classic fair foods offered by local and out-of-town vendors.
