Prevention Coordinator (PC)

The Lawrence County Substance Abuse Prevention (LCSAP) Coalition is looking for a highly organized and motivated Prevention Coordinator (PC).

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

It is preferred that those applying for the LCSAP PC position hold a Bachelor’s Degree, but we would be willing to accept an Associate’s Degree and/or experience in a similar field.

SKILL AND CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should possess efficient skills regarding computer literacy, communication, presentation creation and execution, drug prevention strategies such as youth and family drug-free activity creation and implementation, social media, networking, group organization, and understanding grant language and reporting .

Applicants should also possess a warm personality, team-oriented mindset, strong work ethic, flexibility under pressure, trustworthiness, and self-motivation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The LCSAP PC will work with the LCSAP Coalition Director and staff in furthering the organizations presence in the Lawrence County School System (LCSS) and greater community through prevention education presentations and activities. The PC will continue building and sustaining LCSAP’s youth coalition, Youth2Youth, throughout the LCSS and among other community groups. The PC will continue to maintain and strengthen the relationships built previously by LCSAP as well as create and maintain new partnerships throughout the county, state, and nation. The PC will implement and maintain the prevention activities as laid out in the grant implementation plans and as decided by LCSAP.

The PC will also maintain related grant reports as laid out in the grant contracts. The PC will also execute all other duties assigned by the LCSAP Director, Grant Manager, or Board.

HOURS & COMPENSATION

The PC is a full-time (30-35 hours weekly), contracted position, with an annual salary of $35,000 with benefits available.

Corrections Officer

NEW STARTING PAY: $15.57/hour; $16.20/hour after State certification.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is very responsible correctional facility work involving the intake, processing and incarceration of individuals suspected and/or convicted of criminal activity. Activities associated with the job include

  • Data entry of information into a computer base.
  • Fingerprinting.
  • Logging personal items.
  • Photographing suspects.
  • Performing searches.
  • Placing the individual in the most appropriate level of confinement.

Job responsibilities require:

  • Frequent safety checks.
  • Maintaining a log of events and activities including inmates’ health and emotional state(s).
  • Delivering meals and assisting with ensuring the proper. administration of any medicine(s) as prescribed.

Additional responsibilities include assisting with the transportation of inmates, checking for warrants on individuals in custody and prisoners and related administrative duties. Job responsibilities require experience working in a correctional facility and/or law enforcement, good organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills, sufficient strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job and knowledge of correctional facility operational policies and procedures. Job performance is reviewed by the Corrections Corporal and Corrections Sergeant through the ability to interact effectively with inmates, monitor and control facility operations, knowledge of correctional facility policies and procedures, organizational and decision-making skills and compliance with existing rules and regulations pertaining to facility operations.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school supplemented with additional course work and/or training in crime prevention and/or law enforcement, experience working in a juvenile or adult correctional facility, good organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills; sufficient strength and agility to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills to perform the job.

Child Support Officer

Duties

This is very responsible law enforcement work involving the service of civil warrants primarily involving child support and related legal documents for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. Job activities include receiving and logging various legal documents from general sessions, circuit, chancery and juvenile courts including petitions, citations, warrants, garnishments, etc. and attempting to serve them in a timely and appropriate manner. Additional activities include producing reports and other documentation of all documents served, assisting with patrol and special assignments as needed and providing assistance with a variety of judicial administrative activities. Job responsibilities require thorough knowledge of criminal and civil laws and ordinances pertaining to the service of legal documents, strong organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills and a good working knowledge of Lawrence county governmental and business operations. Job performance is evaluated by the Sheriff Captain through review of the number and timeliness of all documents served, organizational, interpersonal and decision-making skills and knowledge of the laws pertaining to the service of legal documents utilized in criminal and civil legal actions.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school supplemented with additional course work/ training in crime prevention and/or law enforcement; a minimum of three years experience in law enforcement; sufficient physical capacity to perform the job in a variety of weather conditions; ability to interact effectively with the public; strong organizational and decision making skills; thorough knowledge of criminal and civil law; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
