Lawrenceburg/Lawrence County Solid Waste Director Gary Wayne Hyde was recognized as the 2024 Top Leader in recycling, honoring his many years of work in recycling and his continued dedication to its success in Lawrence County.
The presentation was held at the Tennessee Sustainability Conference, hosted by the Tennessee Recycling Coalition, Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Tennessee Environmental Conference. The award was presented Friday, August 23 by Tennessee Recycling Coalition President Caleb Young.
Under Hyde’s leadership, the Lawrenceburg/Lawrence County Solid Waste program won the 2015 Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award because it surpassed the state’s goal for recycling ten years early. The operation and facilities were cover stories in Tennessee Public Works magazine’s July/August 2007 and September/October 2013 issues. In 2022 Hyde was named Director of the Year by the Tennessee Solid Waste Directors Association.
